I picked this book up on a whim. I had no idea what it was about. I had seen some publicity for it, but I figured that it was a Magneto-centic mini. I figured I could skip that.

I flipped through it at my LCS and was pleasantly surprised to see that Mags was in very little of this book. I decided to give it a chance…and I’m glad that I did.

Reading this book gave me a chance to experience something that I rarely get to experience anymore: not really knowing what is going on, not knowing the characters & their relationships, and having to allow myself to be confused as I try to piece it together.

I don’t really know the trajectory of this book and that’s what it made it SO exciting for me. There are some random lesser knowns that I’m familiar with (Stacy X, Sugar Kane, Beak, Angel) but other than than it’s new to me.

Regarding the art, Dragotta reminds me of a Marcos Martin, and that’s not a bad thing at all.

If you’re looking for something different than what’s out there, then check this out.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

Comments

  1. Concur on the Marcos Martin comparison, but Dragotta is more refined, thought it was some brilliant work here.

  2. Just picked this up in trade after missing it first time around, but interested when I heard it was the new Miss America’s first appearance. Was pretty interesting, good story with a mix of new characters and some lesser used ones. Definitely recommend checking it out.
