I don’t know dudes, I read this today and my first reaction was to say, “I kinda got a headache reading this comic.”

It wasn’t from Chris Bachalo’s excellent artwork. He makes comic reading fun and exciting and I love to turn the page and see what new awesome drawing he has created for our viewing pleasure. I know foe some his art can be an acquired taste and a bit cartoony, but I love the hell out of his exaggerated lines and panels (even if Emma Frost and Illyana are a little hard to tell apart – but in Bachalo’s defense some of that comes from the need to have the X-Men’s costumes all look the same, something that I think is needless and boring).

No, my headache came courtesy of Bendis’ New Mutant dialog that he peppered this issue with. Holy Mother Fuck, I know rapid-fire word balloons are Bendis’ bread and butter but this came off as someone trying to “Out do” Bendis.

IT’S TOO MUCH!

I get it that these are kids and they are scared about being a mutant and this new world of the X-Men is crazy and wild and something they’ve never experienced before, but you don’t have to have them speak like they are all on speed.

I do like the plot that Bendis is setting up with Magneto and I’m in for the long haul, but please jebus, slow things down BMB.

Story: 3 - Good
