Secret Invasion #1 (OF 8)

Secret Invasion is the Brazillian Butt Babes #14 of comics.  It's meant for a certain audience.  Those who are into this sort of thing will love it.  Those who aren't will likely be confused and turned-off by it.  It's continuity porn, basically.

Good thing I dig that kind of stuff.

Writer Bendis wastes no time getting down to business.  Characters pop in-and-out.  Scenes shift rapidly.  People speak off-panel and refer to each other by their secret identities.  Events that occured in other books are referred to.  There's a lot going on, and Bendis figures that if you didn't already have the basics down you wouldn't be here.  For this type of book, an event book, that's perfectly okay.

Leinil Francis Yu's art is cleaner than I've seen it in awhile.  It's less murky than it's been in New Avengers, making the action easy to follow and the characters easy to distinguish from one another.

The money shots are the revelations as to who's a skrull and who's not.  A few are revealed here and none are particularly shocking, as they're minor characters (albeit characters with a storied history in the Marvel Universe), but I'm sure Bendis will give us a few nice surprises before the end.
