BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I have collected this entire run and I know a lot of people like all of the changes to the Ultimate Universe that is happening with the "Ultimatum Wave," you know the one from the Ocean, but not this guy. I have consistently stuck with this book and loved it. I've defended it when other people think it was getting bad. I'm also a stickler for silent issues. So one would think I would love this issue. At first I didn't think I did.
Before my comic book reawakening in college, where I would later learn that Green Lantern would become my favorite superhero, I loved Spider-Man. When I was in elementary school and middle school (when comics were more readily available to me) it was Spider-Man that I read the most. I ate up all the McFarlane, Venom, Ben Reilly, Green Goblin, Clone Saga, and more. I couldn't get enough. I could never get enough. Then in college I stopped liking what JMS was doing with Amazing. Then Civil War happened which I disliked so much I dropped all my Marvel books for a while, save 2: Captain America and Ultimate Spider-Man. I had turned to Ultimate Spider-Man almost in some desperation to get a Spider-Man fix that would remind me of my childhood and it gave me everything I wanted.
Today my childhood died all over again. I'm sad and happy the last issues was silent as it got the point across. Although it was painful to flip through. I hold out hope that before the end Peter will be back, but I have a feeling that he most likely won't. Which is an absolute BALLSY move by Marvel. Ultimate Spider-Man was the best Ultimate book they were putting out and to rock a title like they have could turn a lot of people off. My guess is that if he doesn't show back up from some other dimension in the end of Ultimatum, it will be Spider-Woman masking herself as Spider-Man in the relaunched title or all of the teasers have been smoke screen laid down by Marvel and it will be a straight up Ultimate Spider-Woman book. They've been known to do that in the past.
I thought about rating this book low and then I realized how Bendis did a great job. The reason I say this is because he managed to get me upset... about a comic book. Well done sir. Any writer that can get an emotional response out of me will always held in high regards.
Farewell Ultimate Peter. If you don't return, many hopes that another writer will bring you back someday. My guess it will be after they pry your title from a cold dead Bendis (do not take this as I mean ill will towards Bendis, I generally like his work and as you can tell I loved his Ultimate Spider-Man also I mentioned it in the paragraph above).
