I only got a couple books this week so it wasn’t hard to say that this was probably the best thing I read.  This issue was filler and really with how this book seems to go a million miles an hour sometimes, I was glad to have a little filler.

The book involved *gasp* Omega Red, if you looked at the cover I’m not ruining anything for you.  This was a fun fight and it was nice since there really wasn’t a whole lot in the last story arc.  Actually this entire issue was just plain fun.  Nothing important really happened and it was once again a story to show why it sucks to be Peter Parker.

It’s funny because this issue also has to deal with the fake baby that was given to Kitty and Peter, which I had completely forgotten about.  It added to the overall hilarity that was this issue.

Immonen seemed on it for the action, but some other panels were so-so.  I really don’t like his J. Jonah Jameson.  Although like I said I can not argue that this man can’t draw a good fight.  When things were flying around and stuff was being destroyed it just looked good.  I seem to go back and forth on what I think of Immonen and it’s hard being as much of a Bagley whore that I am.

Something else that I want to mention that I notice a lot, especially with Ultimate books, is that the quality of the books that came in to my shop were really sub par.  Pages were ripped in a way on the inside that looked like it had to deal with printing and not shipping.  This has started to happen less in the last few years, but overall was really annoying that I couldn’t find an issue at my shop that was in nice condition.  I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this problem, but as an OCD collector it really gets to me when books are shipped to my shop in this state.  Has anyone else noticed this with the Ultimate books and overall quality in general seems to have dropped recently?  Or am I just really anal retentive.

Overall probably the best book that I read this week.  Like I said it sadly wasn’t hard with what I got the only other book really I could compare it to was Checkmate.  Even if you don’t read Ultimate Spider-Man normally, this would be a good issue to pick up just to see what it’s all about.

  1. Nice review jstump.  I agree with you about this issue.  It was so good, and just a great action romp.  I actually really enjoy Immomen’s style, although I agree with you that some of his panels can sometimes look a little weird.

As for the condition of issues, I haven’t noticed it with this particular title, but Detective Comics from a few weeks ago came in and every copy had a bend down the middle of it, which I didn’t notice until I got home.  I called my shop, and they said that they had ordered more and they could swap it for me.  Usually, my shop won’t display stuff that has rips or is majorly damaged, so it’s not too often that a bad copy comes my way.

  2. Thanks Neb, but the rips I had were on the inside of my book.  The outside had some creases, but all of them did in the same spot.  The same thing happened with Justice when it came out.  All of them had a giant crease in the middle and when I went to the Chicago comic con, the few vendors that had ones that weren’t screwed up were selling them for 20-30 bucks.
