I bought this because Butch (Jackson) Guice drew it. I was planning on staying away from this (too many summer event books), but when I saw that the former Micronauts and Micronauts vs. X-Men artist was working again, I had to see it. I wasn’t disappointed. It was solid work that fits perfectly in a modern comic, but especially well given the flashback to the WWII era. And I have to say I ended up surprised by the story. The fact that Nick Fury is in it is fascinating and what happens to him is pretty mind-blowing. It took some balls for Bendis to portray the U.S. experimenting on black men, but that’s the double-truth Ruth, if you know your history. It wasn’t what I expected, but I think this might be a pretty interesting series.
