There has been so much hate for this series that i felt the need to write my first ever iFanboy review and defend it. A lot of people have been complaining about this book since issue #1 and I think the problem isn't so much with the book itself, but with the mentality that permeates throughout the comic book community these days.
Here is the thing you need to remember: Not every book you read is going to be the greatest thing since Watchmen or the Dark Knight Returns. It is impossible for every comic book to be the Greatest Thing Ever Written. When a series or event is hyped to the moon, you need to take it with a grain of salt.
Trinity wasn't even hyped as such. All I remember hearing about Trinity before it launched is that it would be a weekly series exploring the relationship Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have with each other, and the relationship the rest of the DCU has with the three as an entity on to themselves. So far, and especially with this issue, we have gotten exactly that.
This is by no means Kurt Busiek's best work, but I have found each issue enjoyable. I think he gave is a very generic plot in this series (mysterious group of villains hatch plot to study and take down the good guys), but that plot is really secondary to exploring just what it is that makes these characters so beloved by basically the entire planet and how they relate to each other. Trinity #6 was a very interesting analysis of the motivations of these three, why do they do what they do? All three of them fight the good fight, but for different reasons. Superman wants to protect people. Wonder Woman wants to encourage people to reach their potential as a society. Batman wants to punish bad people. Three different motivations, one result: The Trinity is gonna kick some ass when the bad guys roll into town.
So far, Kurt Busiek has been succeeding in what he set out to do. I'm hoping he has enough character study and action sequences to last the entire run of this, I'm assuming anyway, 52 issue series.
If i have one complaint about this series, it's the art of Mark Bagley. It isn't even so much his art style i don't like as it is the way it looks in the context of this series. I feel Bagley is a talented artist who was perfectly suited for Ultimate Spider-Man. here, I think his pencils are a bad match. Superman, as rendered by Bagley, looks like a normal guy in a costume. When i picture Superman, I picture a larger than life figure. Superman for me will always be the john byrne Man of Steel incarnation, this almost mythic character who stands out from the crowd. Bagley's Superman looks like just any other super-heros. I have similar complaints about his Wonder Woman. Diana is supposed to be a goddess, a woman of such beauty she is almost impossibly stunning to look at. Mark Bagley renders her almost as the cute girl next door. not what i am looking for in a Wonder Woman. I do like his Batman, and his take on other supporting characters or just background people have all been fine. Like i said, he's a talented artist, i just think he's the wrong fit or this series.
All things considered, I don't think Trinity is the best new series of the year. I don't think it is a great series. I certainly think it is a good one and I think it will only get better as Busiek delves deeper into the story and the characterizations. It's a long story he has to tell and it is unfair to bash it after only the first few installments. I didn't love the first six issues, but I liked them and am into it enough to keep looking forward to each week's installment. I'm going to be reading this one to the end and hopefully others will stick around as I feel the best is yet to come.

Nice review!
I thought this was the first really great issue of Trinity and I’m glad I’m still reading it. I’ve been enjoying these issues. I haven’t really read all that much Superman or Wonder Woman so it’s fun for me to get them every week. I thought this was a great issue this week and I’ll keep on reading.
@leland222
Thanks for the comment. I do think this issue was a turning point for the series. I thought up until now it had been just good enough to keep me reading, but now I think it’s going to make me really glad that I did.
Trinity has been a lot of fun, thus far. And this week’s back-up story with Hawkman was the best one yet.
