The Dark Tower, 3rd arc. Hurray.
At my local comic shop, a new arc is always an occasion for celebration - well, kind of - because, since that's the title that brought me there, Marc always puts freebies for me in my bin. Like last year, just before Long Road Home, he put a poster and gave me a free issue of something, I don't quite remember, it was a spotlight or something, and this year, he gave me another glorious poster plus another poster for Guerillas. Amen. So yeah, and there's the book too. So. A new arc is always a great thing.
I buy the book, instantly go home, and read it. And something happened. The intro was great, true Dark Tower feeling, but then, the jealousy thing starts, you know when Alain and Cutbert become gunslingers and the other youngsters are all jealous and stuff...and I was like.
"wait, what? there going to do a story arc about rivalry and jealousy....hey man, I'm not reading Harry Potter!!
"no, that impossible...
"oh, ok nice, Roland and the Grapefruit, again....
"hrm, I'm enjoying this issue less then I should...
"wow, the art blows my mind again...
"oh nice...Steven on a horse...
And then it got interesting, really interesting and really fast. And the last page made me forget the discomfort I felt with the first pages...wich was only discomfort, per chance. So all in all, this was an interesting first issue. 6 issues is a great length I think and I'm really looking forward to know who's the guy that killed the guy at the end - just saying here, but that was some gorgeous art. I almost shed a tear - and see more of Steven in action
While I hope Roland doesn't spend too much time in that Grapefruit again, I'm sure this arc will introduce a lot of new elements - and characters!- that is going to make it a hell of a ride.
As for my discomfort with the rivalry thing...I have the feeling that this is just going to be an excuse to show some Alain-Cuthbert chemistry or something, wich is fine by me.
Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
