A good start.

I haven't read any of the One More Day or Brand New Day stuff, but I pretty much knew what was going on, and picking this book made me really happy 'cause Spidey is a childhood favorite and I haven't got the chance to read him seriously, except in New Avengers, but still, it's not all about him, is it. Since the beginning of Brand New Day, I've been waiting for an arc that really looked like it mattered, and bringing back classic villains + JRJR + a Ross cover on the first ish, seemed like a response to my prayers.

First of all, the Alex Ross cover, as you may know already, is absolutely amazing. I'm really looking forward to collect all the "villains" covers (even tough #570 is a beaten-up Spidey, wich isn't a villain) and the upcoming Granov's Venom is great too. This book was fun for me because I grew up watching the cartoon - again! baddly dubbed in French - and all the villains I know are the classic ones, so I was thrilled to get a Spidey book that dealt with Venom and the Green Goblin. It was a fun book, not an extraordinary book but a fun comic that made me glad at the end that the next one wasn't a month apart. Just 7 days - now 2, whatever.

Intriguing story, great art - I didn't really like JRJR until I read Kick-Ass. There, he won my heart and that's about it - and an exciting new villain coming our way. I was a bit frustrated that the first page dealt with Spidey's origin, again! I mean, ok, I get it that Marvel wants to attract new readers, I respect that, if they didn't I would be screwed, but for God's sake, EVERYBODY KNOWS SPIDEY'S ORIGIN!! Ask a 5 year old, he knows, ask my dad -  that hasn't opened a comic once - false, he reads B.P.R.D. but still - and he knows! Ok, I'm maybe complaining a bit too hard about, let me check...one page and a half...but still, I think that Spidey doesn't need an origin retelling, whatever the book is. I would have prefered a cool big page, introducing the story in some sort of epic way, but that's just me. The rest of the book made me forget that quite fast.

So an interesting starting point, I hope that after New Ways, Spidey comes back with more story that feel important..cause who doesn't love Spider-Man?

Maybe a lot of you actually.

Well, I've been a big fan of post-One More Day Spidey and I'd swear that some people think that's illegal or something. Brand New Day (referring to the issues with that banner) was a lot of fun, but it looks like this story is about to get a bit darker. And Venom... VENOM! I can't wait. I've always said that BND was going to pay off for the folks who were mad about OMD, this just about proves it. I'm happy that I've been with this book since month one of BND. Very happy.

Interesting, actually. Really, I'm no one to judge, it's what I heard, but the BND stories didn't feel to me like that important. But hey, if you wanna recomend a specific arc, you could, they have them all at my comic shop.
