Last issue suffered a bit of a setback with a lot of talking. I mean A LOT of talking. Since Gillen was given an extension of his run, obviously he needed to kill some time for the next issue. So now we should have a bit more flow with this issue. Is Thor’s trip to hell going to be truly epic in Norse porportions? Or will it be like listen to Styx?

Although there is still more talking then action, this was a much better issue. Instead of getting info dumps; we get more insight into the villains. Although Thor and Bor continuing to do little is getting a bit old. If Thor is going to fight in Hel, or Hell, or whateve it’s called I want it to be epic! So far we still have to wait another issue to get any payoff from it. What saves this issue a bit is Mephisto though, who Gillen is fantastic at writing. When he isn’t bothering the webslinger, I do quite like Mephisto a bit. In this he is really eccentric and kinda sexual, sort of like….well like Dracula actually. I did get a huge Dracula vibe from this issue. Maybe it helps that Braithwaite drew him like Bela Lugosi. By the time we get to Mephisto though, this issue does become a bit more enjoyable to read.

Not sure why Rich Elson was thrown away from Braithwaite again. Not that I’m complaining, I can take both, but it is a bit weird. Other from the weird noses Braithwaite gives to Thor in here; it is a pretty good looking issue. His interpretation of Hell is pretty cool in itself. Although it can look a bit muddy from time to time with his painted style.

While this is still an improvement over the last issue, I’m still a bit annoyed we haven’t got that epic fight in Hell yet. Hopefully…..we will get something next issue. As it is now; it’s a nice issue to read but if Norse Gods talking for 22 pages isn’t your thing. Then I say skip this issue if you must.
