So Balder confronts Thor who admits it's true and he had meant to tell him about it, he even wrote him into the Asgardian will, but y'know there was never a good time to bring it up. "But we've been having dinner together every night for six months!" says Balder. "You couldn't have mentioned it over coffee one evening?!?"
The only thing that bothers me is that it's so clearly obvious that Loki is up to something wicked (even, in a chilling moment in the last page, by a little boy who's watching from miles away), that I found it hard to believe that Balder bought the act hook, line, and sinker. Balder has been through some shit with Loki, who once masterminded his death (Odin brought him back, but he was a pacifist for awhile because of it... it's a long story). But Loki's the master of lies and the best cover for a lie is mixing it in with the truth, so I have to admit this is a pretty tricksy plan indeed.
JMS is bringing in a lot of real Norse mythology and he's layering it into the Marvel mythology in an interesting way. The fact that Ragnarok is done and over should potentially mean that these characters are no longer defined by destiny. But the thing about Ragnarok is it's really a cyclical thing. See, the end of all things actually is what creates our world, so that's kind of confusing. But I think it's safe to say that there's more mythology and prophecies to come.
Oh, geez, I almost forgot, Coipel's art is fantastic. Asgard and the Asgardians are done really well. But I'm equally enthralled by the characters in the town just up the road. Great faces.
If you like the character of Thor (Josh Flanagan, I'm talking to you) I can't think of a single reason not to pick up this book.
Art: 4 - Very Good
