Despite some fumbles with their First Wave branding, The Spirit is one of the titles that DC got right.  This title is a rip-roaring good time, and brings the character back to its storytelling roots.  The Spirit is the lovable guy that we all know, and the city continually throws its worst at him.  One of the more endearing aspects of the character is how he constantly gets his ass kicked, but always finds a way to win.  This issue is no exception.  Schultz is certainly penning scripts that harken back to an earlier time, and Moritat’s art brings both a darkness and a charm to it.  An added bonus with each issue are the black and white back-ups, and this issue’s tale was awesome.  Justiniano is a true artistic talent, and his two page spread of the Spirit fighting his way into the mansion of the villain was breathtaking.  I actually wouldn’t mind seeing him do more interiors in the future.  Overall, this issue is a solid addition to the current series, and I can’t wait for more.

  1. Huh, I got turned off of the First Wave stuff pretty early on, but you make this sound great, so I’ll check it out.   Thanks!
