This issue of The Shade has been my favorite thus far in the series. The story really hits on all cylinders from the first page. Mr. Robinson's writing style draws you into the tale between the Shade and whoops...his grandson. The pacing of the dialogue and Jill's artwork kept me studying each panel, and the comic was done, leaving me wanting just one more page.
Jill's choice of an art style is a clinic on a great illustrator's take on a story. Although at first glance it seems like Jill played the story straight forward, but she let the words shine, and there was a plethora of great story telling moments through each panel. Case in point, a shot of The Shade and Albert's feet as they walk, a reader gets the sense of time, while not getting distracted from the words on the page. Secondly in Albert's apartment, the Shade is sitting in the shadows as the demon begins his tale. Brilliant choice of storytelling, lighting and shot selection. I can not forget to give a node of respect to the color palette Patrica chose, or the lettering style Todd tackled in this issue, the overall experience would not have been the same with out it. The combination of work in this issue made for a great read, and made me excited for the next issue.
