I was more that a little annoyed when Ron (I think it was him) said that he had read all of this before in Marvels.

This
book is not Marvels. This is the Marvels Project, a story that will
probably have covered more ground and established a definitive origin
for the Marvel Universe. I could go into other story differences, but I don’t want this review to be a book report.

Something worthy of noting is that The Marvels Project, unlike Marvels, has a great creative team behind it. I know a lot of people respect the art of Alex Ross, but it is a matter of taste when I say that I’ll take Epting’s superb pages over Ross’s stiff and unimaginative figures any day. I’d like to say something about Brubaker, but I can’t say anything that hasn’t already been said.

If these early issues are any indication, The Marvels Project is what Marvels wanted to be.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Saying that the first issue of ‘The Marvels Project’ covers a lot of the same ground that ‘Marvels’ did isn’t a value judgment about the relative skill of the creators.  It’s just more or less a fact.  With this second issue, it became more clear how and why the series is going to stand on its own.
