This is a hard issue for me to rate. The dialogue and inner monologue are corny and exposition-y to a mammoth degree. It’s like Slott is sending up his own worst qualities, those qualities that I think his detractors tend to over-emphasize, but still it feels like a Dan Slott hater writing their version of a Dan Slott story. But then you find out the overuse of inner monolgue and exposition have a second meaning and are intended. When you go back and re-read, the narration takes on a new meaning and it’s very cool and makes a second reading necessary.I really like the twist and it disturbs me to think of its consequences. Very interesting and a tough book to rate.
Unfortunately the art isn’t as multi-layered, simply underwhelming with no back door excuse. It’s disappointing that the art on an issue this big isnt done by one of regular rotating artists. This just feels stiff.
