I read through my stack of comics this week, and did not overly enjoy any of them.  But, so as not to sound like I beat up blind, three legged puppies for fun (I don’t, I do it because someone has to show those furry little terrors who’s the fucken boss), I am going to try and phrase all my reviews positively.  This is the only review where I will acknowledge this, because this is the only review that I felt really warranted praise.

The last two issues have had me really nervous.  Yes, there was the Oh Fuck Moment where Malia ripped out Dara’s uterus, but all in all it was a technical balance of action and backstory that just felt unbalanced.

With this issue, I wasn’t sure how the Luna Brothers could keep this story interesting.  Dara has already killed two/thirds of her enemies, we’ve been inundated with back story; where could this story possibly go?

Well, the beginning of the story seemed to be a setup for a final arc.  I knew there’s be some more posturing, some more back story, and then, in the last few pages some reveal that was supposed to be exciting, but would ultimately be just sort of Oh.

And for most of this issue, I was right.  The back story about Dara and her father was dull, and seemed to be foreshadowing a really lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame ending.  And then, POW, BWIZZAH! an actual, no really I mean it, actual shocking reveal.  This was the last comic I read tonight, and the final page was the only time all night I said “Oh shit.  Really?”  It’s the kind of moment that makes me glad I don’t read everything in trade, because it just wouldn’t have had the same impact if I could have just turned the page, and seen what happens next.

This is the most excited I’ve been to see a final issue of a title  in ages.  Kudos to the Luna Brothers for pulling me back into the story.

The art is consistently what it’s been.  If you like their art, it’s great.  If you don’t, well, yea.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
