WOW! Ok, just read this after Animal Man. Animal Man was good, but this book just blew it out of the water! You can read one without the other, but the two are definitely tied in to one another. This has some seriously creepy moments. I was a little resentful of Justice Leaguers in the book though, and they seemed to have no point outside of a reminder that there’s a new Justice League book, and Superman’s new costume just pisses me off.

Here we have Alec Holland trying to get away from botany a bit, and get his life together again as a construction worker. One freaky dream sequence and a cut to an archeological dig that becomes a twisted horror element with some bugs that make botflies look like cute little caterpillars and all the sudden I am completely entrenched in this story. Scott Snyder has knocked it out of the park again. Definite five star on story.

Yanick Paquette’s art is fan-freaking-tastic throughout, other than his renderings of Superman. It just strikes me as editorial shoehorned the Superman angle in, and Paquette drew Supes accordingly. Everything else is stunning.

I’ve got four more books to read, and I don’t necessarily want to say Pick of the Week right yet, but it probably will be. I want issue #2 NOW!
