Ugh.

This was the first Superman storyline that I’ve ever been excited about.  I like All-Star Superman, but it didn’t blow me away, merely because I’ve never been that drawn to Kal-El as a character.  I’m not saying he sucks, or that I don’t get why people like him; he’s just not for me.  That said, I’ve been absolutely loving the fish-out-of-water New Krypton storyline.  I love the social interactions, the political intrigue.  It’s been great.

Until now.

This issue was incredibly boring.  Toom uch court room dialogue, and character posturing had me wanting to skip panels, and then entire pages, but I held on and read very word, beause I kept hoping this issue would redeem itself.  But it didn’t.  A twist that you can see coming from page one.  Kal-El being, unsurprisingly, a man of morals.  Yawn, yawn, yawn.  The pacing was all kinds of off.  I’ll pick up next month’s issue, hoping it improves, but if not, this will be my jumping off point.

I also wasn’t a fan of the darker art used for the court scene (I understand it’s mood lighting, but it just didn’t seem to live up tot e dark coloring of the cover, which, itself, wasn’t spectacular), but it did provide a nice bump, later, when the vivid, brighter colors appeared.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good
