This latest issue has only confirmed what I’ve been feeling the last few months: World of New Krypton is losing steam. I was really enjoying the series when it was about Superman and Zod feeling each other out in the new world. There was this sense of distrust the whole time, and it added a layer of intensity to the overall story. But ever since Zod “left” the book, Superman’s become more wrapped up in the politics of the planet and is more relegated to being the town sheriff. While the other Superman books are creating covert war between New Krypton and Earth, World of New Krypton is focusing too much on the mundane part of Superman’s job without exacting any real change on the planet and the culture. Think having Superman address his issues with his people and change things would be a more interesting conflict than what’s going on in the book. Even though I’m feeling luke warm on the title, I’m still going to finish it. It’s too far past the bail out point. I remain optimistic that the last two issues might the story back around and bring something fresh to the book.
