If you don't mind paying $3.99 for what you get with Action Comics every month, or $4.99 for the Action annual, then there is no way in hell that you should mind spending $4.99 for everything you get in here!
This thing is pretty fat. Not exactly Amazing Spiderman #600 fat, but thick. You get maps of Kandor, Metropolis, and New Krypton detailed with all the important land marks. You get what is it now? 3 short stories about some of the characters, I'm up to the third one now and I'm not even done reading the thing yet. Plus you get profiles of all the important characters, and a few you didn't think you really needed to know much about but apparently you do. I wish they would do one of these for the Batman books!!
You get so much stuff in here, it is practically worth $4.99 easy. You get an introduction that basically gets you caught up on everything important that has happened with the New Krypton storyline so far, then you get the map of New Krypton and a map of Kandor. It shows all the important locations that are relevant to the story so far like where Alura's husband is buried and where the military guild complex is located. After that we get Superman's profile. After all he is the main character, right?
Up next is the profile for the Kryptonian Military Unit. Then a profile about Alura (Supergirl's momdukes) and her guild of scientists. This part was actually really interesting for some reason. Then we get profiles of Lord Zod and Ursa. Non also has a small profile.
It goes into a short story with Ursa monitoring Zod's condition (he was shot a couple weeks ago but remains alive in stasis). She has a couple flashbacks about the old days. Pretty cool but I don't want to spoil that much for you.
Next we get profiles of Braniac, Connor Kent, and Krypto (the dog). Then we get Lex Luthor's pro, and a map of Metropolis with all its little landmarks. Kool.
Then a profile about the staff at the Daily Planet, Perry White, Lois, Jimmy, etc. Then Mon-El's profile which is about as interesting as he is. And then Guardians pro.
And next is a science police story. It shows Jonathan Kent (Mon-El) as Jonathan Kent, detective for science police. He is way more interesting as a detective then as Mon-El. I would actually buy the Superman title he is in without fussin about it if they had Mon-El appear as his alter-ego more often. His partner is pretty cool too. They make for some pretty humorous converstation. Wish we got to see a lot more of this relationship, but probably not. And next is the lovely Supergirl's profile. Oh, how I love you Supergirl...
The story about Supergirl and Flamebird is absolutely beautiful. Some great artwork, but what else can you expect from DC Comics?! No, nevermind, don't answer that. The profiles on the new Nightwing & Flamebird come next. Some stuff I didn't know about these two is brough up. Very interesting... don't wanna spoil!!
All that left is a quick story about Pete Ross I just finished. He is the guy who took over in the White House for Lex Luthor after Luthor got the boot. Then there are profiles for General Lane, Atlas, Codename Assassin, Metallo, and Reactron which I need to catch up on.
So there is a lot of info packed into this comic. It's pricey, but definitely worth it. If you need to get caught up on New Krypton, or just wish you could squeeze every little detail about it into what is left of my short term memory, this is a book for you!!
