All too often we get caught up in events, continuity, backstories, creator debates and so on. Sometimes superhero comics should just be a goofy, fun adventure. Thats why i keep coming back to Superman/ Batman. #81 starts on a 4 issue arc that seems completely bizarre...and fun. We meet up with SHADOWPACT, a relatively obscure (to met at least) supernatural "JLA" type team, taking on an epic demonic invasion led by a mysterious armored knight, who after he is slain turns out to be a long haired Superman from another time.
Next we meet up with a steampunk Batman alchemist type in a creepy dungeon laboratory with a mysterious gothy demon female sidekick. Together they set out to do battle with Shadowpact to retrieve the Superman Kinght and do some crazy comic book adventure stuff. We take a fun little romp through the more obscure parts of the DCU with The Phantom Stranger making an appearance as well as Detective Chimp. I don't know if its a great comic but its silly, goofy and fun stuff that just brings you back to a time when comics weren't taken so seriously. And of course the fate of the universe, and all of space/time is at stake!
The art and writing is solid and fun all the way around. If you're interested in reading a good old fashioned Superman and Batman team-up outside of continuity in a crazy adventure, this is a title worth checking out and an issue that is a great place to start.

Thanks for the review Wally! Like so many others, I dropped this book a while back, but now that I know it’s a Shadowpact story, it’s back to the store for me!
If you get the chance, pick up the back issues of this offbeat team. You won’t be disappointed.
@CaeuZokul –yeah i wikipedia’ed it. Shadowpact came out when i took my break from comics, but they seem kinda interesting. Will try to look for it. I doubt its collected huh?
@djd –i didn’t even notice that. I’ve always viewed these as classic stories from “some time” like it was a time vaccum or something. Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent doing their thing outside of continuity. I guess they did it for continuity people.
Yea, I see this title out of continuity as well, even though I’m a continuity buff. Supes didn’t really sound right to me, like he was lil too sophisticated, but this issue was great, esp Chriscross’s art.
