Alright let’s not beat around the bush here*, this is a filler issue. Yes we can aruge all day on why ‘filler’ issues can be good and shouldn’t have a stigma. But let’s face it; it blows* when you had a good thing going here with JMS’s story and then it suddenly has stop to a sudden halt. It is JMS’s fault no doubt, I mean he couldn’t finish a script on time. Either way though, nothing good can ‘come’* from this.

So it’s no surprise that I just didn’t like this issue. I really tried to ‘get into it’* but it in the end it just made me feel flaccid*. I mean the idea is good enough; see what is going through the mind of Lois Lane while Superman is going through his journey. While at the town she grew up in (which by the way, has this town been established as Lane’s hometown before?) she meets up with some friends and sees where her life could’ve ended up. It’s a nice idea but it just feels a bit hallow considering I don’t think Lane would really feel like this. Both her and Clark have been together so long I don’t really think Lane would imagine she is a ‘3rd wheel’ for him. If anything, we know damn well she can be a pretty damn good person in command when she needs to be. (More so then Superman sometimes) That and the overall writting just feels a bit lazy and it got me bored really quickly.

That and this issue broke one of JMS’s rules he established towards the end……which pisses me the hell off considering JMS was adamant about it in the first issue!

Anyways, what also was a problem with this issue was the stiff* artwork by Leandro Oliveria. I want someone better than Eddy Barrows to do this book; but if it’s any indication I do not want Oliveria to take his place. Granted, it feels much fresher and vibrant than Barrows. That should probably go more towards the colorist (Rod* Reis) than anyone else. The characters themselves though; boy they looked flat and unemotional on each page. The faces Lois and everyone else makes is just off putting. By the time this issue ended I wondered if a person could physically smile like that for entire day. On the bright side, Oliveria is pretty good at doing the antaomy of women……Which makes perfect sense since Oliveria was a PORN artist before getting this gig. (Hence the innuendo throughout this review)

Yeah this ‘filler’ issue left a bad taste in my mouth*. It kills everything JMS was doing (which again is his fault it went this route) and in the end it gives us just a medicore issue to read and look at. As much as I don’t want to see Barrows artwork again; I hope we see the original team again next month and get back in the groove of things. Also…..uh…..uh……damn it! I’m out of innuendo.

  1. While we’re at it, let’s discredit H.R. Giger, since he also draws things that are sexually explicit.

Do you think Heavy Metal is a porn mag? Honest question.

  2. And please provide proof that this guy drew sexually explicit things. There’s nothing on google, his website or his deviantart account that proves this.

  3. @comicbookchris: I was just making fun of the fact that Oliveria was a porn artist before coming here. Notice I never make a single complaint about the women in this book…
