(whew, after a long wait and a comic book sales blow out at my shop I'm back for the reivews!)

I'm not sure but is this the 1,000th reboot of Supergirl in the last couple of years? It certainly feels like it, with practically no creative team to make her a much better character in the DCU. She's mostly DC's 'barely legal' girl and the only people that seem to pick her up is pre-teen boys and middle age, balding men. But now I have the privilege to pick up the new creative team and in one word defines this new run: Promising.

It didnt knock my socks off, but it's definitely a good start for Gates and Igle. Not evering hearing of the two I wasnt expecting much, but they did deliever on an emotion new turn for Supergirl. I like the aspect of 'Does the World Need Supergirl?' as the central theme for this. One it pretty much reflects, us the readers, on the character in general. Plus it just gives a much better emphesis that Kara needs to be a better superhero. There is a great mix of fighting (with Banshee), an emotion conversation with Kal, a discussion (and funny one) of secret idenities with Wonder Woman, and finally the clincher on being a more responsible adult with Lana Lang.

It helps that the art is soild for the most part as well. There are some problems I had like faces being in and out of detail sometimes, plus the unintenional funniest moment of the week was Wonder Woman failing her hands around to show her secret idenity. But still the backgrounds are nicely detailed and overall Igle gives a good set of emotions and tone threw each panel.

So yeah it's definitely a thumbs up, or 4 for art and story for this new reboot for Supergirl. If these guys can keep this up issue after issue, then this could be a great series once again. My only problem with this is that we dont get a Supergirl issue for another 3 weeks, and that it's the start of 'New Krypton' with the series. Now this issue was the clincher for me if I wanted to pick this up or not for the event. But I should probably wait until after that event to see if this new creative team can handle Supergirl....without an event helping them out.
