I really liked this first issue of Superboy. Even though It read very fast, it was still a very enjoyable time and a nice setup for this first run. Even though Lemire wasn’t drawing the book, you can see he still put his Art Directors stamp on it through is writing, with some subtle panels that move the story but have no dialogue. Having been a fan of Essex County, those quiet Smallville panels reminded me a lot of that body of work and truly put Lemire’s stamp on it.

The art is good and expected quality. It was very well done, but still a bit forgettable. Perhaps as this run progresses we’ll see Gallo spread his wings a bit more and do some interesting things.

This sort of innocent Super story is very all ages and the kind of thing i love to see in comics. Its not as epic and continuity/event dependent as the other Super titles and i hope this title can be its own thing. The teasers towards the end of the book about some of the characters that are coming down the line have me very excited for what this series can be. Looks like a whole bunch of fun!
