Suicide Squad is one of the titles that I always meant to get around to reading, but never quite did.  I heard great things about it.  Specifically about how well Gail Simone writes these characters.  And, based on this issue, I believe it.  Having only a few issues of Batman’s worth of knowledge about Deadshot, and a mostly animated series understanding of Waller, I got an immediate feel for all the characters in this.  Whereas I’m usually annoyed by multiple narrators, Simone’s mastery of pacing made the technique not just readable, but highly enjoyable.  So much so, that I’m going to try and track down some old Suicide Squad trades, and read up.

If you’re purely in this for the Blackest Night, you can skip this issue.  While it does touch on Blackest Night, that’s not the focus here.  And that’s ok by me.  It’s a solid read, and says it’s leading into the next issue of Secret Six, which promises more black lanterns.

I can’t wait (though, of course, I have to).
