To me, it generally seemed that people weren’t expecting a lot out of Suicide Squad. The redesign of Harley Quinn’s costume was the top compliant that comes to mind along with other comparisons to the old DC universe. I might be in the minority opinion, but the DC New’s Suicide Squad is a good comic book.

In the premiere issue, readers get a peek into the psyche of each character, all of which have distinct voices. These individual snapshots give readers a strong impression of who these rogues are. I must say that, surprisingly, my favorite is King Shark. He’s the most—what’s the best way of putting it—concise of all the members.

The artwork is clean and detailed. Panels are easy to follow, yet angles and perspectives vary enough to hold my attention. I expected the tone and artistry of the book to be darker, but the overall presentation compliments the crazed endeavor of the Suicide Squad well.

I enjoy comics that are serious but not too serious. This book could be serious fun. Suicide Squad looks like a promising blend of dark humor, action, and intrigue making it a fine contribution in the new launch.
