My internal jury is still out on Stumptown.  I am not a fan of the Noir coloring that’s prevelant in works like this one, or Brubaker’s Criminal/Sleeper/Incognito series.  I acknowledge it’s a genre thing, but I’m a fan of work that expands a genre, and this art just seems to sit comfortably in the middle of the Noir Art road.  It’s very adequate.

The story could end up being very cool.  And, while I understand Rucka wanting to start out with a dramatic scene, and then flashing back to how the characters got there, I don’t think the “x hours earlier” boxes added anything to the script.  Sure, throw in the first one, in case the reader doesn’t understand the concept of flashbacks, but once we’re in the past, I didn’t think the time updates were at all necessary.  But that’s a minor nitpick.  For the most part, a promising beginning to a story.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good
