I’m a huge Stephen King fan.  In fifth grade, I got a note sent home when a concerned teacher caught me reading It after I’d finished a test.  So I’ve been excited that he’s so invested himself in comics for the last few years.  While it’s snagged a little here and there, I’ve been greatly enjoying Peter David’s adaptation of The Dark Tower, and what I’ve read of The Stand has also been well done.  But,”N” marks the first Stephen King comic based on a story that I’m not fmailiar with.

Guggenheim definitely has a flair for King storytelling.  I applaud his decision to  not phonetically write out the Maine accent (my mother has it, and very few people, including King, get it right 100% of the time), especially as I still heard it in my head.

Maleev’s artwork is exactly what you’ve come to expect from Maleev.  If you enjoy his work, I think you’ll find this is some of his most detailed and lush titles since maybe Alias.  If you hate his work, well, this probably isn’t going to win you over.  Personally, I think he’s one of the best tracer/photoshoppers currently working in comics.  And I don’t feel his work suffers from over referencing like your average Land issue.

You really don’t need to know anything about this series in order to get into it, so skip the solicits.  If you like King, you’re probably going to love this issue.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent
