This book is a slow burn, but a good one. It has a quiet hum of classic Star Wars that is really nice. I’m looking forward to the fleet coming together under Leia’s leadership.

Luke hitting on whatsherface is a little out of character, but Brian Wood is not going to let Luke mack on his sister, which would be more in character for him. Luke is getting sidelined which is a shame, but he is still the crybaby everyone loves. Wood makes up for the missing Luke on Leia action with plenty of x-wing porn, which is nicely depicted by the art team.

The art here is good all the time, and really great sometimes. The amount of detail in the background beats a lot of comics out there and just looking at the closeups on x-wing pilots’ masks and faces is pretty satisfying. Making in-cockpit x-wing panels exciting isn’t easy, but D’Anda and Eltaeb pull it off. The covers are really beautiful. It’s as if Alex Ross had a bunch of of fan movie posters he drew for Empire Strikes back and it is awesome.
