I’ve been wondering since the beginning of The Stand how they were going to adapt this chapter. The Kid, even though his entire story is contained in this single chapter, was one of the most memorable characters in the extended version of the novel. His over-the-top 95mph personality comes through here to a surprising degree. This is a difficult chapter to adapt successfully (or tastefully) and Aguirre-Sacasa manages to do both.
Mike Perkins – for his part – continues to bring the characters and scenes from Stephen King’s novel to brilliant, pulsating life. The two-page spread that gives us our first look at The Kid simultaneously captured and redefined the image of the character I had from the novel.
With Hardcases #1 this creative team continues to do the impossible, and do it well. Fans of The Stand who haven’t been reading this book, take a look. I think you’ll find it in good hands.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
