It's safe to say that everyone is burned out from event comics. When Final Crisis and Secret Invasion finally ended, everyone wanted to move on. (Heck even Brian Michael Bendis considering how he finished his book, zing!) But there definitely is two groups of people who are hating events right now:
A) The comic book readers
B) Bongo Comics
Judging by how this crossover went down of the course of three Simpsons titles, the people working at the company really seem to hate events. But also hate at how the industry has turned out as of late. Which is kinda ironic they are making fun of what they hate about comics by doing a crossover....which is what they make fun of a lot in this. Irony sure is fun!
This 'Radioactive Man' event brings a new change to the superhero of their universe. Krusty the Clown has taken over the comic book publisher and wants to figure out how to reboot the comic. How do they do this? By telling readers something big and exciting is coming very soon, and it'll only cost you 399 pennies! Somehow the entire city of Springfield gets into event fever and can't wait for Radioactive Man to get released. Only Bart, Milhouse, and Martin seem to be the only ones hesitant about this event. As they have been apart of this hype before.
All three comics collecting this is just pure porn. It shows how much in love we are with comics, but how frustrated we can be about them. Although no publisher is mention directly (most likely for legal reasons) we can definitely tell who Batton Lash is parodying. Whether it's 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' or 'Secret Invasion'; no major storyline is left undone. Hell I think I even saw a 'Operation Galactic Storm' reference in this. I think my favorite bit of this crossover was how Bart and the others couldn't figure out what was going on in their stories. Only because their are too many damn issues to buy to figure anything out.
It's all fun and it's such a great read. It might literally be one of the best thing's I have read this year. Just because it's more specific to readers doesn't mean a company like Bongo can't have praise once and awhile. I know I have praised them like no one's business lately, but this crossover event really sealed the deal for me. Screw stuff like War of Kings and Messiah Complex (but not Blackest Night!!), give me Simpsons events. They'll definitely leave you a smile then what major publishers offer now a days.
