Why is it that all the requiem/eulogy heavy comics are the best to read? Tomasi wrote a fantastic epilogue for Martian Manhunter a year ago, and Paul Jenkins knocks this book out of the park as well. I never cared for the Sentry. A blonde Superman knock-off named Bob always rubbed me the wrong way. The void twist was a way to make him remotely interesting, but I always felt the same boredom and contempt for him I did for Superman, if not more. I was curious about this book when I first saw it solicited. It was obvious from Siege Issue #2 where the Sentry was headed, but I’ve always been a fan of the fallout. The epilogue was always as interesting to me as the event was. The local guys in the shop reviewed the book as I bought it as “Dudes standing around”, and I got hopeful.

Don't get me wrong, dialogue heavy books can be burdensome, but they are also some of my favorite books. It subconsciously feels as though the writer really put forth extra effort, and is sharing a ton of information with you that action panels can’t capture. Hell, some of the best mind-blowing moments in comics are dialogue-based.

So, not knowing much about Bob, I watched as several heroes mourned his loss, and shared with me their favorite moments, and confessions centered around their fallen friend. This book has almost no action, but kept me riveted to the pages, and disappointed as the book ended. If you want a good read with emotional weight, and a good inside track on some of Marvel’s most prominent heroes, pick this book up.
