This issue serves mostly as a commentary on Glenn Beck and other media distorters. It is a far more compelling story than the actual plot of Seige.  Reed seems to have a firm grasp on how journalists talk and think.  I really enjoy how this story is fun, while at the same time making a fairly intricate statement about the current American media.

  1. "It is a far more compelling story than the actual plot of Seige."

    Ah, good ol’ reliably crazy Akamuu.

  2. This is not a "fairly intricate statement of the American media". It’s just more hamfisted Fox/conservative bashing.

    I don’t like Glenn Beck. I don’t like Fox. I am not and don’t vote Republican. Plenty of things to criticize there. But to do so in such a mean, simplistic way, like this comic does, does more harm than good. This is not smart criticism. It’s more of the same. There’s better criticism of the entire media landscape than this. Stuff like this is just divisive.

  3. Lol Glenn Beck. Clearly he’s a reflection but also a portrayal, this Glenn Beck Amalgam can behave like anyone Brian Reed wants to, after all it’s comics and poking fun at some people works sometimes.

  4. @flapjaax: the "fairly" was said with a sneer, I just forgot the italics.  That said, I don’t find this divisive at all.  This isn’t supposed to be our world (despite the lame Spideybama thing last year), and that person isn’t exactly Glenn Beck.  I don’t see it as doing any harm.

    Really, the only well done portrayal of American media in American comics that I’ve seen is Hickman’s "The Nightly News", which proved to me that I’m not the only one in the world who has imagined taking out all the corrupt journalists (whether the corruption is that they’ve been bought, or merely that they are out there to report their opinions as opposed to facts…and that applies across the board to Republicans, Democrats, Liberatarians, Larouchebags, etc.) and starting over.

     @mangaman: Agreed.
