With this second issue of Sheltered Brisson, Christmas, and company deliver an eerie, psychological thrill ride, that hearkens back to such tragedies as Columbine. The story is fast paced yet engaging with character work interwoven throughout scenes of horror, despair, and confusion. This issue deals with the immediate fallout of the camp’s parents being murdered and the protagonist Victoria and her friend Hailey are thrown into a mess they had no idea was coming. Luckily, Victoria seems like a strong character and I’m looking forward to how she deals with her new life and if Hailey (her only friend) will be a part of it.

This is a very emotional issue and was hard to read yet hard to set down. The master mind behind the killings is a teenager named Lucas and his portrayal is both deathly chilling and terribly sad. The same can be said about the others, but remorse is written on their faces unlike him. For two issues in, this has gotten DEEP fast and I could feel it with every page. You can almost feel these kids sinking.

The artwork and colors are very good. The acting and emotion pours from the panels and the mood is set superbly. Christmas gives Lucas the most perfect psycho expressions throughout the issue and there is enough blood on the ground throughout the story that the horrible events of the night take center stage and keep the knot in the reader’s gut.

This was great and rode that fine line of being too much. I have no idea what comes next, and I like that, and am excited to find out.

Story: 5 - Excellent
