You know you have a good set of writers on hand when something in a book gets you angry. It’s not a ‘bad’ angry I am feeling, but a ‘good’ kind of angry….let me explain.

So far Severed has quickly become one of the best horror books on the stand. With this particular issue Scott Snyder and Scott Tuft might not have had a whole lot of scares, but they certainly turned this world upside down for a particular character. I do not want to give away what happens, but it really got me upset because I cared about these characters and to see one go out like this is particularly horrifying. Even though you can somewhat see this twist happening towards the end, it’s the way that Snyder and Tuft handle the aftermath that got me upset. It’s all going to blow up in either of the remaining character’s faces and even though you don’t want to see it; you know both of them are asking for it.

The art by Attila Futaki is just as beautiful as always. If you go for a painted route, then you have my full attention. However, the inking did seem a bit off from time to time. I’m not sure if there is a new inker involved with this issue or if Futaki never did his own inking. But some of the faces just look a tad off from time to time making it a bit noticeable. It is not a deal breaker, but it does hamper a little of what is a fantastic issue.

So yeah, what else can I say about this comic? Make sure you have the lights on and admire what is on the pages. Snyder, Tuft, and Attula all give 100% with this mini-series and it is showing. Definitely one of the best and scariest comics to come out this year.
