First off I had no idea thatt he book was crossing into Thunderbolts, and I have no idea now if I needed to read it. I never really liked that title, and really wouldn't be keen on getting it just for this crossover. That said, I read the recap page and never really got any sense that I was missing out. This book encourages really mixed feelings in me. While I'm not completely convinced by the warriors of the title, there is just enough Nick Fury (and other ex-Shield characters) to keep me coming back. Unfortunately, this issue sees us retreating somewhat from the Fury/Shield characters to go back to the Secret Warriors. Still you can't have everything.
This is still solid stuff, although Hickman has used the LMD get out now, so I hope he is wise enough to leave that alone in future. I liked the use of Phobos, and the look of pride on Ares' face as he took on Osborne was priceless. Still, it begs the question of why Ares puts up with Norman. When Norman declares all out war on the Warriors (and how often has he done that, in general, across the Marvel U this year?), I couldn't help but question why the god of war didn't park his axe in his boss's face and just, I dunno, move on to the next war he finds?
There's intriguing spy stuff with the real (I assume) Fury on a stakeout and the whole comic builds to a nice cliffhanger, which Hickman is becoming a real master of. The art is really nice too, a marked improvement on Caselli. So i find myself still enjoying this book, although not completely. It still feels like it's the book that should be building to the end of Dark Reign as, essentially it's become Shield versus Hammer. There is one point I feel the need to make though, and it's not just about this book. I know that Osborn is the architect of all that's wrong with the Marvel U right now, but is it really necessary that he is the villain for just about every single main Marvel book right now. Do you remember the good old days when every corner of the universe had their own set of villains? This could essentially rate as the longest/biggest crossover/storyline in comics history.
Art: 3 - Good
