Every time Matt Fraction wrote a Thor book this is literally what I heard every issue:

‘MATT FRACTION!!!!! GREATEST THOR WRITER EVVVVEEEERRR!!!!’

……Okay I dont know why they sound like cavemen….but still, the hype for Fraction writing Thor was very high. So in my quest to read every single storyline from Secret Invasion (sans the one’s I already read like Deadpool or IC) this is a good way to start.

Fraction as an overall writer is very medicore in my eyes. He does definitely seem to have a lot of imagination and he does seem to plan his stories out….But they never seem to entertain. If his Uncanny run has proved anything it’s that a science team fighting a Godzilla monster is actually boring…Obviously Fraction can no way improve JMS’s run on Thor right now; but with all the right ingredients JMS has left for Fraction….I would think he did some good work on the character.

Well quite frankly I was bored with this plot. How Fraction can bore me with Beta Ray Hill is beyond me…But I just didnt care where this plot line was going. Bunch of Skrulls decide to attack Asgard and somehow Beta Ray lunges right into Asgard to help. But the Skrulls have stolen his hammer so Thor decides to let him borrow his while his alter ego (Blake) helps out with a pregnancy. I do want to preface that this wasnt a bad story. There’s just nothing really that exciting to talk about. It’s just one huge fight scene for three issues and then it’s over. The fight really dragged on to. One thing I noticed from reading the first of these SI books is that there is no reason for these mini’s to be 3 issues. This all could’ve been one and done deals and it’s really shameful for Marvel to pimp out all of this talent for lackluster stories.

But thankfull there is a saving grace with this mini and it’s Doug Braithwaite. He does a great job with his pencils. So damn gorgeous with character designs, panel layouts, and overall detail with the backgrounds. Praise should also go to colorists Brian Reber and Paul Mounts; who literally make the the book look like a hundreds of paintings. The cover for this trade is also pretty good looking as well.

So yeah…..probably not worth your $16 bucks all together. This story really didnt need worth mentioning….I guess it explains why it took Thor so long to get to the party at NYC, but 3 issues worth of a mini? Didnt need that much ground to cover.
