*starts rocking back and forth* You can do this Champ, you can do this.....

Okay, I have been possibly the biggest critic with this event since issue 3. This series has gone no where for me in terms of entertainment and story. The first five issues were taking place in the same locations and the plot was not moving forward what so ever. Finally the last issue was pretty much a damn set up issue in an otherwise set up series. I had the biggest lump in my stomach telling me that this whole event has been pretty much pointless until issue 8. Now we're on issue 7 and I think that last sentence is coming clearer and clearer. This series has been more disappointing in my eyes then WWH, and that's saying something.

But after reading this issue I can say I had fun with it. Now dont go start typing I'm a damn hypocrite or anything. Just because I had fun doesnt mean that there isnt still glaring problems with this overall series. The fun stuff? Well pretty much the chaotic fighting was fun. I mean this whole issue was a fight scene and Yu has definitely won the award for 'best artist' of the year. Some people dont like his rough/sketchy artwork but I think having him on this event was the best thing Bendis has done. Plus there we're some pretty kick ass or funny moments. People will love Hawkeye in this issue, Ares loving the fight was a good chuckle, and that Watcher joke with Spider-Man was pretty damn funny. Overall it was a fun issue, but there is a big problem with this issue as well.

My concerns about this issue being nothing more then a fight scene was pretty much proven. Outside this battle, nothing major really happenend. Although I'm sure the general comic fan will love this issue, I'm pretty sure others (like myself) will be pissed off that this was again nothing more then a big battle. You see I like to think that we're not in the 90's anymore. Fights are common in comics, but damn it's 2008 and I like to think the industry actually cares more about storytelling then anything else now.

Sadly Bendis has proven to me that he cant write a big time event. I'm sorry but this event has been piss poor, even a delay ridden Civil War had more story progession then this. We're one f***ing issue away from changing the landscape of the Marvel U forever and I feel like nothing has happen. Oh sure the Skrulls invaded but really outside of that, what big changes have happened so far? Other then Jarvis, SHIELD agents, Hank Pym, and other very minor character revealed as Skrulls; what big change happenend hear? Nothing, absolutely nothing.

I have another big feeling in my gut that Bendis is going to make a very rush move in the final issue that makes this event relevant. The last page indicates that something big will happen...and other then Wasp turning big and purple I dont know what this actually means. It's sad to say but: Skip this entire series until the last issue. Seriously. Nothing imporant has happenend that will make you want to buy these 7 issues. Bendis, as it seems to me, clearly wanted the final issue to matter and made the previous issue just a big fight scene. It's like Michael Bay: Explosions first and story second.

I'm really generally concern about Bendis and his writing now. Sure he'll throw this review or any other negative compliants as a fanboy reacting as usual. But seriously, this event has not been good; heck I know I will try and forget about this once it's all said and done. Bendis really needs to analyze himself as a writer and really think carefully if he's making a big impact with this company right now. Cause with Secret Invasion, Mighty and New Avengers, and Ultimate Spider-Man...they have all failed to live up to expectations and I think that this might be the worse year Bendis has ever had.

@Super: In terms of his paychecks, yes I’m sure Bendis is having a wonderful year.

But in terms of reading his comics and seeing him clash with Robert Kirkman….It has been a pretty disappoint year of him in my eyes.

On a different note…how the fuck did Skrull-Jarvis end up back in the Avengers’ tower (with his identity intact, no less)?

I couldn’t disagree more–this has been a great wrap up to what started years ago in New Avengers. Also, Bendis was so right against Kirkman it’s silly.

First, JARVIS is still a skrull and was handed a SKRULL BABY (it had green eyes….)

Second, the purple WASP-SKRULL thing seemed to change all of the major heroes (last page). So I think this is the "change" to the MU. What the change is I have no idea, but the heroes all changed into purble-bubbly-laughing "heroes"(?)….

DARK REIGN indeed….

My point was that Skrull-Jarvis, I’m assuming, was consumed in fiery death when Maria blew up that Helicarrier which was, I don’t know…several thousand miles away.

@btljuce. Wasp is not a skrull. I don’t know where you got that from, she was given the serum by skrull Hank. But she herself is no skrull. She is now a tool of the skrulls since whatever Hank gave her did something to her.

Also green eyes do not a skrull make. She could be a skrull but it is not a given that she is. The baby did point at the skrull Jarvi Like "Hey look he’s not real!". Also she was freaked out by Jarvis’s change.

@VogonPoet30-Skrulls can change to look like other people. And more than one Skrull can look like the same person. More than likely that is a different Jarvis-Skrull than the one that showed up at the SHIELD helicarrier. That being said, Bendis did not sucessfully explain this (boo for his story telling!), so your confusion is very valid.

And Wasp is not a Skrull. COWoDOOM is correct

Decent review, even if it came from TheNextChampion. 😛 I have never been a big Bendis fan, and this series has not helped change my mind. I just want to see it end like everyone else.
