This was…..better? I think? I’m not sure really what to say here. This wasn’t a bad issue, but then again it wasn’t great or really worth mentioning. What’s pissing me off about this series is Mike Deodato and his art. The first arc for this series looked really good and I didn’t see any reason to hate the man and his style. But this arc, and this issue in general, is showing me the ‘devil’s advocate’ for having a digital artist like Deodato on this series.

The characters look stiff and overall look way to obvious as CGI. Every panel has no natural flow to it and the poses Deodato puts these characters in look so unnatural. If you look at the cover for this issue, you can see the good points of having a full digital artist with some great looking characters and stark imagery. Inside though it’s muddy, dark as hell, characters are stiff, faces look ridiculous, and overall just not a good looking issue.

The writing does get better here but what’s the point if the artist isn’t on his game? I want to see more of the Deodato I saw in the first four issues and not what I’m seeing here. Please, please, please let someone like Deodato get better next month. I’m still loving the hell out of the writing with this series so I’d like to see the art match the quality writing.
