This was a big mess — I thought the backdrop of a battle in the capital would be a compelling theater for combat in light of Fear Itself. Instead, the Beast takes time out to talk to Charles S. Dutton, while giant stone Abe Lincoln comes to life and crushes Nazi mecha to pieces, with the help of a stampede of dinosaurs. Huh? I see the juxtaposition Nick Spencer was going for here, but there were too many dissonant ideas in play to mesh together. Scott Eaton’s draftsmanship is pleasant, but the pages and panels get too crammed to assist the storytelling.
