Ahh, Seaguy! How I love your lonely alienated angst ridden ways.
So here’s what I think happened in this book.
Since the event’s of the last mini, Seaguy had the memories of his last adventure and his personality erased by eating the ½-an-animal on a stick. (which is a artificial living food-stuff called xoo) Now, Seaguy is struggling to regain his desire for adventure, the affections of She-beard and the memory of his dead best pal, Chubby the Choona.
Not fooled by the consumerist utopian façade of the Mickey Eye corporation, a world which makes superheroes redundant, Seaguy pines for better things. The CEO of Mickey Eye and the architect of this Orwellian/Naomi Kleinian nightmare is Lotharius; Seaguy’s supposed friend and rival to She-beard’s love.
After seeing the apprehension of his chest partner and friend, Death, by the iPol police of Mickey Eye Seaguy’s stupor is shaken. Haphazardly coming across the reformed villain Prof. Silvan Niltoid and the Hall of Monsters exhibit of the Mickey Eye amusement park; in particular the Autoraptor and Cyclosauraus displays, Seaguy attempts to remember Chubby the Choona again. However, after the betrayal of Lucky El Loro, a talking Spanish parrot and spy of Mickey Eye, the re-eduction of Seaguy is commenced at a psychological hospice for superheroes.
During this attempted brainwashing a ghostly apparition of Chubby the Choona appears to Seaguy and the superheroes of the hospice; Chubby informs Seaguy that he is indeed dead and imparts information to Seaguy which is not heard by the reader. As chaos erupts in the hospice three doppelgangers of Seaguy surface and the book ends….
(and somewhere in there it is implied that Anti-Dad, a Anti-Monitor-ish villain thought dead in a Crisis of Infinite Earths style event, is alive and responsible for the machination of Mickey Eye)
Art: 4 - Very Good
The Naomi Klein reference is right on. Mickey Eye- the evil all-seeing corporation fits right in with her stuff on high tech privatized security.
well, you know, i went to a art’s university. i have to mention Naomi Klien and every possible time
good for you to spread her message. i did a ‘naomi klein’ plus ‘security camera’ search and i came up with this online-free passage from her awsome book ‘the shock doctrine’:http://www.naomiklein.org/shock-doctrine/excerpt/homeland-security
anyway, the above passage says that there’s been 4 million security cameras (that us taxpayers paid for) installed since 9/11.
then they had 4 billion hours of footage that no one could possibly watch. that’s where it gets interesting.
I do like Naomi Klein but at the same time I take her writing with a gain of salt. It’s not like she is completely unbiased.
one of the funniest, most embarrassing thing I saw in uni was this model from my life drawing class reading No Logo with his sack blowing in the breeze as 40 first year student were drawing him. what a douche bag!
but, Hey! what about that comic huh?
Yeah I also saw the Anti-Dad/Anti-Monitor identification, and the all-seeing Mickey Eye reminded me of the all-seeing "Monitor" as well. As far as Morrison’s own career goes, it seemed like it made quite a bit of sense for this to pick up where Final Crisis left off.
yeah, you’re right Flapjaxx, i hadn’t even considered that.
