Month in and month out Scalped is taking the medium into new and uncharted territory. Not only with the setting, but also with the intricacies of its character development and its glimpses into a culture never before explored in comics certainly, but also rarely explored by any medium. It’s impressive when you think about how easy this would be to do badly. Guerra’s art, with the simplest of lines painting a picture of a South Dakota so vivid to the reader it is hard to imagine that we’ve never been to such a distant corner of the earth. The art along with Aaron’s complex story walk a line that if crossed, could make this book come off as a simple stereotype of crazy, violent Indians off on the rez doing drugs and drinking themselves to death. However, mixed with Guerra’s icreadable ability to draw Native American characters with facial features which make the book come off as no simple stereotype, but an attempt to show a land almost as foreign to most of us as the distant planets we read about in Green Lantorn. To give this book five stars isn’t enough. I only hope the megar $2.99 I gave will prove to be enough to keep it coming to my LCS each month.

Story: 5 - Excellent
