Even though it’s late, I’m tired from a long day at work, and the creative juices have been wrung from my brain, I can’t help but feel compelled to write a review for this book. It’s dark, grittiness compels me to do so. It should come as no surprise to anyone that is reading this book that this issue was nothing short of amazing, and most people who don’t read it but know about it probably are sick of hearing just how good it is. Trust me when I say this people: This book will take whatever book you hold as the best book, take it out back, and shoot it. Seriously, it’s that good.

This issue picks up right where the last issue left off. I’m so glad that this story arc is following Chief Red Crow because he has emerged as one of the more interesting characters in the series. He is a dark, dark gray, but there is a humanity in him that we didn’t see before, and it makes turning the page compelling because this is a haunted character. This is a man who can’t escape his past, he can’t escape who he is, but at this moment in the book, he has to choose to do just that. We also got a glimpse a little bit more into his past, and the revelations are significant and only deepen how interesting he is.

The art, as usual, is great in this issue, capturing the gritty, dark nature of the setting of the book. In this issue, Red Crow is covered in darkness with shadows seemingly gluing themselves to him. The story plays out nicely and the emotional beats are there, and are perfect. This is just about as good as comics get.

Story: 5 - Excellent

  1. Red Crow punching hippies in the face was the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.

  2. I loved the sound effects that went with that fight.
