Hmmm. . ..I’ve been going around defending Whedon’s run on this title.  I just reread the first four issues, and it held together pretty well, and I thought I saw where it was going.  And then I got this issue and, well, I do believe Joss has stumped me.  There are good ideas lurking in here, along with some really nice character moments, and I love the way Michael Ryan’s art looks.  But this has gone so far away from the core of the book, and contains so many convoluted plot lines and seemingly extraneous characters that I have a hard time seeing how it’s going to come together in one more issue.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. One more issue?  Jesus.  I figure I’ll need to buy the trade version of this arc with the oversized explanation of who everyone is, the way I didn’t really "get" Kingdom Come until I bought the Omnibus.  I need footnotes, Coles Notes, Wikipedia and a map.

Someone get me a bagged lunch I’ve going spelunking for plot!

I agree though, I have to say this is the marred mark on Whedon’s otherwise great run in comics.
