I think it’s safe to say that many of the iFanbase began picking up this book when Josh picked it as Pick of Week some time ago.  Now, the number of people who have been pulling the book since then may have changed, but for those who have bought it regularly have experienced the roller coaster that this title has been.  Last issue saw the return of Chuck Dixon to writing duties, and with this issue, the momentum and general awesomeness he started in the last issue continues into this one.  I had a blast reading this book this week as Dixon completely nailed what makes Robin an awesome character.  You can really see the battle that Tim Drake has within himself about his position on “being like Batman” and he is contantly making an effort for his individuality.  He also has problems, all of which, like a Spider-Man can compound into interesting story threads.  I haven’t enjoyed this book that much since Adam Beechen’s string of issues.

Chris Batista does an admirable job with his pencils this week, but I really miss Freddie Williams III on this book.  His art just seemed to have a fluidity and movement to it that made the action scenes exciting.  Bastista does a good job capturing the feel of the book and the character, and I didn’t really notice any major oversights.  It was just good solid drawing, but there was nothing that really stood out to me.

Overall, I had a blast with this book, and if you haven’t read Robin in awhile, pick up these two issues and come back into the fray.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good

Comments

  1. Coming off the crossover I was prepared to drop this title, but now that Mr. Dixon is back I will stay the course at least for awhile.

  2. Batista’s art reminds me of Chiang’s on Green Arrow.  Very nice.  However, he draws Robin’s lips kind of weird.

  3. Batista definitely does a good job, but it’s little hiccups here and there that keep him from striking gold.  Still, it could be way worse than what it is.
