I picked this up as a complimentary bat-book to try it out as I liked Red Hood’s character in past issues.

I’m kind of biased here, as it does and does not read like a first issue… I mean, we’re familiar with those characters but some of Lobdell’s story points aren’t explained in this issue, so we see what’s happening without really understanding what’s going on… Mainly the All Caste and who the hell Essence is and her link to Red Hood?

Also, I don’t mind “sexy” comic book girls from time to time, but Kori’s poses and behavior in this book just felt weird… In Catwoman it is justified, here, it felt forced and after the third sex-reference I just rolled my eyes and begged for it to stop already and just get on with the story!

So yeah, great action sequences and some good dialogue (when Kori shuts up…) and I’m curious to see what’s next but its still on trial here and not a definite “yes” for Lodbell.

Fortunately, Rocafort’s art is amazing here (when Kori is clothed!), it moves, its detailed and the panel layout is just awesome!

I hope it gets better for the next issue, if not, I might drop this one out. Sex-crazed alien is not my thing…
