I gave this issue 5/5 and thought it was a good wrap-up to a good series. Rossmo's artwork was great as usual - surreal and creepy and grotesque.

I remember in the first issue thinking "This guy is crazy, he's hallucinating that there are these zombies/mutated creatures." That thought persisted with me through the series, even though issues 2 and 3 seemed to try and prove the monsters were actually real. Therefore, I was was not surprised by the "twist" like some have indicated, but I thought it was appropriate.

But then I got to thinking more... maybe there is something going on, that the monsters are real. This book is in many ways a lot like "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson - similar subject matter, similar structure, similar perspective. Could one of the zombies shouting "Come out, Neville!" just like one of the vampires in the "IAL," it really hammered home the similarities. You've got a human fighting against his former friends and neighbors transformed into "monsters," surrounded and trapped in his home. And just like Matheson's novella, our Neville is killed in the end by the "monsters" because, at that point, he has become the monster in their eyes. He is the exception to the norm, the thing to be feared. So, all the backmatter indicating there might really be some kind of zombie/mutant outbreak? What about the shadow of Red, showing the antlered monster? Is that just presenting Chuck's warped view of the world, or does it mean the monsters are real? Is it just a metaphor at that point? Very interesting stuff!
