There are many problems with putting out a complicated, scifi comic when it only comes out every three or four months.

I love Jeff Smith, but found the first three issues of this series confusing to read, despite having read a synopsis of them on Jeff’s blog well before the release of the first issue.  They just felt like those episodes of “Lost” when the writers were trying to keep being weird, but didn’t have any idea where they were going.  And I was really let down.

This issue should have been the first one.  There’s still a lot of mystery and confusion, but it’s the kind of confusion that leaves you wanting more.  There’s even, finally, a bit of back story that doesn’t tie anything into a nice little bow, but makes you wonder how exactly it’s going to knot up.

I hope the fifth issue continues on this upward slope.
