Thanks to Justice League Unlimited, the Question is one of my favorite superheroes. He isn’t like the rest of the heroes, and anything I’ve ever read with him has always been good. 52 is definitely one of the highlights to see a great Question story, but even The Dark Knight Strikes Back has a good representation of the hero. Now the original one has been dead for quite some time, with Renee Montoya taking over. She’s been a good replacement so far, but something is missing. She just isn’t like the old Question I grew to love….Guess the Black Lantern will have to teach her some things.

Now I know more of the modern age take on the original Question, and not his origins. I’ve been meaning to read the old Question series, but haven’t yet. So seeing this Professor Rodor was a bit of a setback for me. Cause I know he has history with the original Question, but I wasn’t sure how great of a history. So anything that had to do with him was kinda boring to be honest. He just seemed like the typical scientist that cares more about truth then what is going on in front of him. So that wasn’t working for me.

Then we have the crux of the issue, which is Lady Shiva and Montoya. Again I know Shiva has history with the Question, but I didn’t know how much. So them getting into a tussel didn’t interest me as well. Finally we get to the BL Question appearing and to be honest….it was boring. He was nothing different like any of the other Black Lanterns I’ve seen before. The BL Black Mask in the Catwoman issue is what I want to see with most lanterns. He still has his personality but still rises for Nekron. Here, the BL Question is just a puppet with no personality. He might as well be another ressurected hero or villain, cause there is nothing different about him then the rest. Then you have the solution to how they get rid of him, and it’s absolutely ridiculous. What’s stopping him from coming back? You can’t hold your emotions forever.

The art….boy I had a few problems with it. I get a bit confused on what Sienkiewicz does in terms of teamwork but him and Cowan together….just didn’t work for me. It’s way to sketchy for my tastes and character anatomy is all over the place. Faces are also a big problem, and I couldn’t even tell the different between Shiva and Montoya half the time. Then the coloring just made it unbearable to look at. It ironically looked too good and it didn’t flow well with the sketchy art. It actually made the characters look worse, again with the faces making them practically unidentifible towards the end. Just not good, I’m sorry I just didn’t find this to be good.

I’m really disappointed with this one shot. This just felt like a phoned in issue just to get Montoya involved with the original Question again. They had a huge journey together in 52 and here, nothing of that is mentioned. It’s just another random fight between living and the dead. It says Rucka AND O’Neil did the writing for this issue. I think O’Neil did most of it, cause Rucka wouldn’t have made it this boring. O’Neil has been a chore to read lately in anything he does. So I think his participation in this issue really hurt this. Plus the medicore artwork by both men doesn’t help either. All of these guys should’ve taken a picture out of the Catwoman and Power of Shazam one shots. That’s how you do these resurrected titles. Don’t waste your money on this.
