Last week saw a vast improvement over the previous couple of issues by Aaron and Dillon. We keep seeing more of Bullseye and just how crazier he is compared to his regular contiunity counterpart. With this issue we get more of the same but also, and finally, some action with Frank Castle.

A great mix of all three major players in this. Bullseye continues to try and act like Frank Castle, and by the opening pages we see just how far he is willing to go to become him. It’s sick, it’s twisted, and overall it keeps me turning the page because I cannot believe what I am reading. Jason Aaron is perfect at writing Bullseye and once this issue ends (and seeing the cover for next week helps too) I cannot wait to see how much further we see the insanity of this man. Kingpin is also getting some good screen time as we’re seeing just how miserable and paranoid he’s become. The issue ends with his wife telling him what we all know, and it really puts into question just how long Aaron will keep Kingpin around for this new run. Finally, we get a good amount of Frank Castle in this. While it was certainly good to read, I still see no real different takes on the character. This could be anyone else writing the character and it still doesn’t feel like this is a Punisher comic first, but more of his Rogue gallery.

I have felt bad never really talking about Dillon’s artwork. But really it has been the same for all eight issues now. It is great as always, but nothing really stands out. Sometimes his faces for characters don’t seem to fight. Here though since it mostly just follows the three main characters, we don’t see the generic faces as before.

For two issues straight now, Aaron has definitely brought his ‘A’ game again for this title. It’s sick and twisted to see the exploits of Bullseye. But also to see how sad Kingpin’s and Punisher’s life has gotten. There’s more in common with those two then previously thought with this issue. Even with still a lack of a good take with the titled character, this arc has improved greatly. Just how far though is Jason Aaron willing to take this series? That’s the question that is making me continue to read this series.

  1. Totally agree. This issue kicks ass even more than usual.  Can’t wait to see where Aaron brings this.
